This post is a long time coming. Seriously, I’ve been meaning to write it forever. The words have been in my head so long, I have no idea how to start. Continue reading “Desert Flowers”

This won’t be posted for a while still I’m sure (I have no internet, television, or cell phone service in my canyon-bottom residence here at Mesa Verde), but I am writing this on May 17, 2011, the one year anniversary of my college graduation. Continue reading “A Happy Anniversary”
A few days ago I did my first big hike of the season. The last time I did the Syncline Loop turned out to be a very…er… interesting experience (you can read about that fateful day here, if you haven’t already). Although I thoroughly enjoyed the part of the hike I spent on my own, I felt a little cheated on the second half and decided to give it another swing. Continue reading “A Rookie’s Guide to Hiking”
Well, a lot has happened since I’ve last written. I was waiting for everything to become official before I posted it here, but at this point I’m wondering if that is ever going to happen. And seeing as I have internet access today for the first time in quite a while, I might as well take advantage of it right? Continue reading “The Park Service Paperwork Blues”

Still sitting in the living room at Canyonlands. Still waiting for the sun to do it’s job. Still reflecting on my time in Summit County. There is one post I always wanted to write, but never got around to, and that is one documenting all the funny things my kids have said. I probably can’t even remember a quarter of them. I wouldn’t feel right delving into my newest adventures without writing at least once more about my time in the mountains. I truly wish I had written more there, but as wonderful as it was everything about my job was so exhausting that I had little energy to write at the end of my days. There are things that I’ll miss and things that I won’t. Here’s a list of both: Continue reading “Catching Up”
NOTE: The next few posts were written a few days ago when I was without internet. Sorry in advance for those of you who get these posts via email and are about to be bombarded.

Horrah! I am back at Canyonlands! Words cannot describe how good it feels. This morning as soon as I woke up I ran to the window to soak in my first look. And there she was, exactly as I had remembered, greeting me with another glorious day. It even smells the same. Oh happy day! Continue reading “Back to the Canyonlands”
It is the eve of my three-day, Professional Ski Instructors of America certifying exam. While I should be concerned with the movement analysis of bend, twist and edge; while my mind should be preoccupied with the definitions of flexion, extension, rotary and edging – tonight, I find myself distracted Continue reading “Dreaming of Spring…”
Well, I did it.
Two days ago I was offered a job as a GS-05 grade interpretative ranger at Mesa Verde National Park. And I took it. Continue reading “Perseverance”
