Peace
My sole piece of responsibility as a volunteer here at Canyonlands is a trail monitoring project which, despite having been assigned to countless volunteers and seasonals in the past, I quickly discovered didn’t actually exist. The idea that someone would slack on such a fun project honestly blew my mind, as I always saw it as the best excuse imaginable to spend less time in the visitor center and more on the trail. But really I should be thanking these lazy former co-workers of mine, because without their lack of enthusiasm I never would have ended up with the sweetest piece of freedom and creativity ever sitting in my lap. So after a week or so of writing proposals and SOPs, I got my ideas for a trail monitoring system approved and hit the ground running. Continue reading “Peace”
Play Time
I’m inclined to start this post with an apology, though to be honest I’m not quite sure who I’m apologizing to. I know many of my friends and loved ones read this little blog, mostly to keep up with me and the places I go – but as a form of entertainment too, I guess. And so my first thought is to apologize for not updating in so long. But then I think to myself that I’m not really important enough to actually be sorry for this. Don’t worry single reader, I’m not digging for compliments here. I know people enjoy my writing. I’m just not quite at the level that anyone is waiting with baited breath for my blog posts. Continue reading “Play Time”
Why I Chose Vegan(ish)
This winter I’ve started an experiment that has lead to a major life change. I think this will probably come as a shock to many of those that know me, but in the past few months I’ve made the decision to eliminate animal products from my diet. Vegan isn’t quite the word to describe it. I still indulge in dairy products every now and then, and I’ll even eat certain meats on special occasions. But I’ve been making an effort lately to keep to a plant-based diet. And I feel great! Continue reading “Why I Chose Vegan(ish)”
Great Excuses Not to Go to Yoga

You didn’t really think I was going to write an anti-yoga post did you?
I stumbled upon this today and thought I would share. I hope you are all having a happy, healthy new year! I have a few blog posts in the works, but you’d be surprised how busy unemployment can be!
Be back soon!
Update: Healing and Housing and Snow
Once again, it’s been quite a while since my last update. I think I was waiting for some big news or event. The truth is that life has been pretty quiet since the November festivities died down. My days have more or less revolved around two things: healing my very stubborn feet and ankles, and trying to find a place to live for the season. 162 Miles to Santiago
I didn´t walk as far as I wanted to today. I couldn´t. Not because of pain, which is good and I am happy for. But because I was not in the right mindset. Continue reading “162 Miles to Santiago”
My Camino
San Sebastian
Well, I went to the doctor yesterday and it was exactly what I feared – achilles tendinitis. He said no walking at all for 2-4 days and suggested I take a bus to Santiago. Between my bad spanish and his bad english I was pretty sure he was telling me my camino was over. Yesterday was filled with lots of tears. I felt totally hopeless. But friends and family and lots of total strangers came together and lifted me up and now I am resting at a family friend´s house on a balcony overlooking beautiful San Sebastian with my feet up and iced and the sweetest dog I´ve ever met at my side. It´s a long story how I got here but the important thing is that I´m okay and feeling much better. Continue reading “My Camino”
Little Bird, Little Bird
8/5/11
Weeks ago, sometime in June, I found myself on a 1-hour rove of Step House – and engaged in a brutal war. It was the height of gnat season, and I was under attack. I performed my gnat dance with bravery and diligence, waving my hands in the air as I alternated spinning around and running in circles. But resistance was futile. As I nursed my many wounds that evening, it was clear the gnats had won. Continue reading “Little Bird, Little Bird”
Walk in Beauty, A Navajo Prayer
I recently stumbled upon this prayer next to a drawing at the Cortez Cultural Center. I feel it encompasses everything I’ve learned to value in the past year. Enjoy. Continue reading “Walk in Beauty, A Navajo Prayer”
