October

I can’t believe it’s October.

Even though the Aspens in the La Sals have began to turn orange, making the mountain range seem as though someone has spilled a giant amount of cumin or mustard seed all over them; even though the wheat grass that once dominated the mesa top, glowing every twilight, has been reduced to small patches here and there; even though the sunflowers fields have all died out, replaced by their empty, bronzed stems; even though our staff at the Island has been moving on one by one since September, dwindling our numbers by the day; even with all of this, I still can’t believe it’s October.

I have five weeks left at Canyonlands. And so much left to do.

Can’t someone in this universe stop time?
